Good to know

  • Field extraction is keyword based and applies no accounting rules. Check every value against its source line before using it.
  • The keyword list covers common English and Chinese invoice labels. Unusual or abbreviated labels may be missed — the source line shows what was matched, or that nothing was.
  • The engine and language data are downloaded from a public CDN on first use. Your document is processed locally and is never uploaded.
  • This is not bookkeeping software. Amounts are read, not validated against tax rules or your ledger.
Everything runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

About this tool

Point it at a photo or scan of an invoice and it extracts the fields you would otherwise type by hand: vendor, invoice number, dates, currency, subtotal, tax and total — plus a candidate list of line items. The important design decision here is that every extracted field shows the line of text it came from. Receipt recognition is never perfect: the layout varies wildly, stamps cover text, and half the battle is knowing which number is wrong. With the source line beside each field you can verify the whole thing in seconds instead of wondering why the total is off by twelve cents. It also sums the line items and compares the result against the detected total, which is the one automatic check that catches a missed row.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop a photo or scan of an invoice or receipt. Straightening it and filling the frame helps more than anything else.
  2. 2Run the scan. Each field appears with the matched line underneath it — check the value against that line, and edit anything it got wrong.
  3. 3Read the sum check. If the line items add up to something different from the detected total, a row was probably missed or misread. Export to JSON or CSV when it looks right.

Frequently asked questions

Why does every field show the line it came from?

Because with receipts you cannot verify what you cannot see. A tool that just fills in a form gives you numbers with no provenance, and when the total looks wrong you have no way to tell whether it misread the total or misread a line item. Showing the matched line turns verification into a glance. It also makes failures obvious — if the field is empty, you can usually see which keyword the invoice used that this tool did not know.

The total came out as the subtotal, or the other way round.

This is the classic mistake in invoice readers: the word total sits inside subtotal, so a naive keyword search confidently returns the wrong figure. The keyword list here is ordered from specific to general and excludes subtotal and net total when looking for the grand total. It also requires that the matched line actually contain an amount, so a heading like Total items: 3 does not hijack the field. If your invoice uses an unusual label, the source line will show you which line was picked, and you can correct it.

Can I put these numbers straight into accounting?

No. Treat the output as typed-in values that still need checking, not as a booked entry. Recognition errors are rare but silent, and a total that is off by a digit is exactly the kind of error an accountant has to unwind later. The sum check catches the common case of a missed line, but it cannot tell you that 5,480 was really 5,840 — only your eyes on the source line can.
