About this tool
Turn a photo into an avatar sized for a specific platform: choose circle, rounded square or square, pick the output size, set the background colour of the corners and optionally add a coloured ring. Crop, zoom and alignment are fully adjustable, and the corners are genuinely removed rather than covered, so the exported PNG stays transparent where it should.
How to use it
- 1Drop a photo, ideally one where the face is near the centre.
- 2Choose the shape and size, then zoom and shift until the framing looks right.
- 3Add a background colour or a ring if you want one, and download the PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Is the round avatar really transparent in the corners?
Yes. The shape is applied as a compositing mask, so the pixels outside the circle are actually removed rather than painted over. Dropped into any app on any background, the corners stay clean — as long as you download PNG, since JPEG cannot store transparency.
Which output size should I choose?
Pick the size the platform will display. Most social profiles render between 128 and 512 pixels; 512 is a safe choice because it looks sharp everywhere and at higher pixel densities, and it is small enough to upload quickly.
How does the ring interact with the crop?
The ring is drawn inside the shape's boundary, so the photo is cropped slightly tighter to make room for it and nothing gets clipped off the edge. Set the width to zero to remove it entirely.
