About this tool
Scale a photo up to four times its original size using stepwise resampling, then apply an unsharp mask to bring back the crispness that interpolation smooths away. This is a purely mathematical enlargement rather than a neural upscaler: it makes a small image bigger and cleaner, but it cannot invent detail that was never in the file.
How to use it
- 1Drop the image you want to enlarge.
- 2Choose the enlargement factor and how much sharpening to apply.
- 3Run it and download the result as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as an AI upscaler?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. AI upscalers use a trained model to guess plausible detail, which can look impressive but also invents texture that was not in the original. This tool enlarges mathematically, so the result is a faithful, larger version of your image with no made-up pixels.
Why does it enlarge in steps instead of all at once?
Drawing straight from a small image to a very large canvas makes the browser's interpolation skip source pixels, which produces visible blockiness. Going up roughly twice at a time keeps more of the original information, then a final small step lands on the exact target size.
Why was sharpening skipped on my image?
Sharpening runs a convolution over every pixel, and above roughly twelve million output pixels that takes long enough to freeze the page. Rather than let the tab hang, the tool skips sharpening and tells you — the enlargement itself still completes.
